Another round of talks are scheduled to be held between the leaderships of Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP), main constituent of the ruling United Peoples Freedom Alliance (UPFA) and the main opposition party United national Party (UNP) October 5 in the Jayawardhanapura parliamentary complex. The decision to meet for another round was taken at the conclusion of the third round of talks held between these parties Wednesday.
The talks between these parties began on September 15. The second and third rounds of talks were held on September 19 and October 3. Reports on six identified subjects which included ethnic crisis, electoral reforms, and good governance were submitted by six sub-committees appointed at the second round of talks. As there was lack of time to complete the review on these reports, leaders of both parties decided to postpone the discussion for another day. The SLFP delegation was led by Ratnasiri Wickremanayake, Prime Minister and the UNP by its Deputy Leader Karu Jayasuriya.
