SLN, Sea Tigers clash in Mannar seas
[TamilNet, Friday, 06 October 2006, 10:57 GMT]
Heavy fighting was reported between Sea Tigers and Sri Lanka Navy (SLN) in seas near Ketkarativu, a central island between Talai Mannar and Delft island Friday early morning between 12:00 midnight and 2:00 a.m., sources in Jaffna said. Although both sides have feared to have suffered casualties no official details are available.
Ketkarativu lies in a central location in Mannar seas surrounded by Delft, Paalaitivu, Pungudutivu, and littoral villages of Ilupaikadavai and Velankulam. Liberation Tigers have long been suspected of using Ketkarativu as a key location for their activities in Mannar seas, SLN sources in KKS naval camp said. During earlier times, Portugese have been using Ketkarativu as a fuel store for their sea fleet, according to sources.
