Young mother shot dead in Batticaloa

A young mother living at Selvanayagam road in suburb of the Batticaloa Municipal limits was shot dead by unidentified gunmen around 6:40 pm Wednesday, Batticaloa Police said.

Gunmen had visited the house of Mrs. Piriyaliny Karalasingam, 32, house, called her by name, and shot her dead at point blank range near the gate.

Mrs.Karalasingam, a mother of one child, is from Muthur and was staying in a relative's house when she was killed. Her husband is working in a Middle East country.

Her body was taken to Batticaloa Teaching hospital for autopsy and Batticaloa Police is conducting further investigation.
