TNA boycotts SL parliament protesting NE merger ruling

TNA parliamentarians with black bands entered the parliament when it resumed sitting Thursday morning around 9.30 a.m. They walked into the well of the house and sat on the ground in protest to the Supreme Court order on the merger of two provinces, sources said.

Thereafter, Mr. Ponnambalam made a statement on behalf of the TNA parliamentary group. He said the SC order on the merger of two provinces has scuttled the opportunity to find a political solution to the Tamil national problem within a united Sri Lanka. He said TNA parliamentary group would boycott the parliament and that the government should reveal its stand before November 7th on the Supreme Court order on the merger of two provinces, sources said.

Soon after Mr. Ponnambalam concluded his statement, TNA parliamentarians got up and walked out the parliament, TNA sources said.
