Mannar Tamil youths arrested in Kalpity

Seven Tamil youths, aged between 19 and 35, from Talaimannar in Mannar district, arrested by Kalpity Police on Monday, were remanded by the Puttalam Magistrate till October 23. Parents of the youths have lodged complaints with the Mannar District Citizens' Committee, civil sources said.

According to complaints, the youths had gone to Kalpity on Monday to buy new fibre glass boats. Kalpity Police arrested them when they were waiting at Kalpity bus stand to return to Talaimannar.

Kalpity Police produced them before the Puttalam Magistrate on a report that these youths had failed to provide reasons for their visit to Kalpity and requested court to remand them until investigation is completed, sources said.
