2 Civilians shot dead, auto-rickshaw driver disappears in Jaffna

An auto trishaw driver from Chavakachcheri has disappeared after being seen interrogated by the Sri Lanka Army (SLA) soldiers at the Five Junction check point in Jaffna Wednesday, civil society sources said. Meanwhile, two civilians were shot dead in different incidents in Jaffna Peninsula, Thursday.
The auto driver, M.Kandeepan, 30, a father of 2 children, went to Jaffna Wednesday for a hire and was last seen at the Five Junction checkpoint being interrogated by SLA soldiers. Later, in the evening, his auto trishaw was seen parked in front of the Thamputhottam area Army camp in Chavakachcheri, witnesses said. His vehicle was later found out abandoned in the woods in Sillalai Thursday morning, local residents said. The relatives of Kandeepan lodged complaint at the Human Rights Commission, Jaffna office Thursday evening. Meanwhile, Sivasubramaniam Suthan, 31, was shot dead by unidentified gunmen who went to his home Thursday morning around 8:00 am in Sandilippai North, sources in Jaffna said. His body was taken to Jaffna Teaching hospital for autopsy. In another incident, Thuraisingam Thavachchelvan, 31, was shot dead by unknown person who visited him at his house, located 200 meters from a military checkpoint, in Puththur East in Valikamam region. His body was taken to Achchuvely Government hospital for postmortem examinations, hospital sources said.
