Tamil Norwegians hold vigil in Bergen

Tamils living in Bergen, Norway held a peace event Thursday evening, expressing their desire for just peace and condemned the human rights violation committed by the Sri Lankan Armed forces and the paramilitaries operating with them. Representatives of major political parties took part in the event, held in the town centre.

Speeches and cultural programs performed by both norwegian and tamil artists were held on a special stage erected in the town centre.

Bergen is the second largest town in Norway where about 400 expatriate tamil families have settled.

More than 300 Tamils took part in the event held braving heavy rain.

Representatives of the Labour Party, Centre Party, Conservative Party, Chrisitan Democratic Party, and several Liberals and Socialists participated in the event.

Jorill Christensen, member of the county government representing ruling Labour Party; Hans Edvard Seim, Bergen City Government Commissioner for Department of Finance, Cultural Affairs and Business Development (Conservative Party); Grete Kvilvang, Leader for Liberal Party in Bergen; Torstein Dale, Leader for the Norwegian Red Electoral Alliance (RV); Filipp Rygg, Chrisitan Democratic Party and Arne Ostgaard from the Centre Party addressed the assembled supporters.
