Two SLA soldiers injured in Aavarangal claymore attack

Two Sri Lanka Army (SLA) troopers were seriously injured when unknown assailants triggered a claymore mine along Jaffna-Point Pedro Road in Aavarangal in Valigamam East, on a SLA foot patrol at 10:00 a.m. Friday, sources in Jaffna said. The injured soldiers were taken to Palaly Military Hospital.

The claymore attack occured near the junction where the road to Atchuvely forks from the Point-Pedro-Jaffna road.

SLA troops cordoned off a large area in Aavarangal and conducted a search operation.

Pedestrians along near were indiscriminately attacked by the SLA troopers brought to the area following the claymore attack. Vehicular traffic along the heavily used Jaffna- Point Pedro road was blocked for more than two hours during the search operation, local residents said.

Aavarangal is located midway between Jaffna and Point Pedro, nearly 15 km southwest of Point Pedro.
