Police officer shoots himself dead in Pothuvil

A policeman attached to Pothuvil police station in Amparai district shot himself dead in an apparent suicide Monday around 1:50 a.m at the his room near Pothuvil police station, said the police.

The policeman was identified as M. Gunaratne, 41, from Monaragala district and a father of two children.

His body has been transferred to Pothuvil hospital, hospital sources said.

The reason for Gunaratne's suicide is not known said the police who are investigating into the death.

Pothuvil is located 95 km south east of Batticaloa town.
