Grenade lobbed at SLA checkpost in Mannar

Unidentified attackers lobbed a grenade into a Sri Lanka Army (SLA) checkpost located close to the public playground in Mannar town while the soldiers were checking a lorry at 6:35 p.m., Tuesday, Police said. Tension prevailed in the town and the shops were closed for the day as SLA soldiers detained an old passenger of the lorry.

The other persons on board the lorry had fled from the site following the grenade explosion.

Additional SLA troopers deployed at the site conducted a cordon and search operation alleging that those who escaped from the lorry were the attackers, residents in the area said.

No one was wounded in the grenade explosion.
