One home guard killed, two seriously injured in Vavuniya

Unidentified armed men in military fatigues opened fire on a home guard road patrol unit, killing one on the spot and seriously injuring two, Wednesday around 2:00 a.m at Thirvagama in Vavuniya district, said Vavuniya police.
Sunil Jayanth was killed on the spot while the two injured home guards were rushed to Vavuniya hospital and later transferred to Anuradapura hospital for intensive treatment, said hospital sources. Manickavasagar Illancheliyan, Vavuniya District Magistrate, conducted the inquest into death and ordered the body to be handed over to the relatives of the dead man after postmortem examination. Meanwhile, two dead bodies with their hands bound were recovered by Vavuniya police three weeks ago at the Kandapuram area and kept at Vavuniya hospital were yet to be identified. The District Magistrate ordered the police to bury the two corpses at government expense.
