Labourer shot dead in Vavuniya

Unidentified armed men abducted a labourer at Koomankulam in Vavuniya on his way to work Sunday morning and shot him dead later in the evening around 5:00 p.m at Kandapuram in Vavuniya, said Vavuniya police who recovered and brought the dead body to Vavuniya hospital.

The deceased was identified as Thangarajah Raveendran, 39, a father of two children.

Vavuniya District Magistrate Manickavasagar Ilancheliyan and Vavuniya Headquarter Police Inspector Kumara Chanthanayake inspected the man's dead body at the hospital where Raveendran's mother identified the body.

The magistrate ordered the body to be handed over to the victim's relatives.

The motive of the killing is not known, the police said.
