Armed men shoot dead Tamil civilian in Trincomalee

Unidentified persons shot and killed a Tamil civilian and injured two others Tuesday night around 7:00 p.m. at sixth milepost north of east port town along Trincomalee-Nilaveli road in Uppuveli Police division, sources in Trincomalee said.

The victim, a mason, has been identified as Somasuntharam Inban, 25, of Nilaveli.

The two Tamil civilians injured have been identified as Satheeswar and Suthahar, both aged 25, and residents of Sambaltivu village.

All three youths were returning home after work along Trincomalee-Nilaveli road when they were shot at sixth milepost, sources said.

The body is lying in the mortuary of the Trincomalee general hospital.

Uppuveli Police is conducting investigations into the killing.
