Central bank bombing case proceeds

The Colombo high court judge Sarath Ambeypitiya allowed leave to the prosecution in the Sri Lankan Central Bank bombing case to proceed as the Police had so far failed to produce in courts the leader of the Liberation Tigers and his intelligence wing chief who are the first and second accused.

Although ten people are accused in the case, the Police have been able to produce only the fourth and fifth accused in courts. Both are held at the maximum security prison in Kalutara.

The Colombo high court was heavily guarded this morning as the fourth accused Vigneswaran was brought there for the proceedings. The fifth accused in the case, Kathirithamby Sivakumar was not brought to the courts today. Prison officials told the court that he could not be produced today because he is required for an identification parade in connection with the assault on EPDP leader Douglas Devananda in the Kalutara prison on 30. June 1998.
