Hurricane force winds displace civilians, damage houses in Amparai

The coastal village of Komari in Amparai district was affected by a mini cyclone Tuesday early morning at 5:00 a.m forcing over 200 civilians to flee their homes and seek refuge in the homes of their relatives, sources in Amparai said.

The area was completely destroyed by 2004 December Tsunami and Fifty houses constructed by Non Governmental Organizations (NGOs) for resettlement of the affected people have been damaged by Tuesday's cyclone.

In addition, a school building and the building of YMCA are also reported damaged.

The Education department was unable to conduct GCE (O/L) examinations Tuesday, officials of the department said.
