Kayts Police constable killed in "accidental" gunfire

One police constable was killed in an accidental gunfire at Kayts Police station Friday afternoon, police sources said. The constable was cleaning his weapon when it accidentally fired, killing the officer, the Officer-in-Charge of Kayts police said.

The killed officer was identified as Sisira Kumara, 44, from Thangattuwa in Negombo, police said.

Kayts Acting District Court Judge, M Thirunavukkarasu, who visited the site of the incident, directed the police to conduct post-mortem examinations and then release the body to Sisira Kumara's relatives.
