3 attacks in Vadamaradchy stun SLA troops

Three separate incidents of attacks on Sri Lanka Army (SLA) troopers were reported from Vadamaradchy Monday. SLA foot patrols were attacked by unknown gunmen in Thikkam, and in Navindil in Vadamaradchy. In a third incident in a claymore attack in Inparutty, one SLA soldier was killed and four soldiers injured.
Unconfirmed reports from Vadamaradchy said three SLA troopers were killed when unidentified gunmen exchanged gunfire with SLA foot patrol in Maanaandi Junction in Thikkam, in Vadamaradchy north at 8:30 a.m. Monday. The firefight lasted nearly 45 minutes according to local residents. Palaly High Command acknowlege the attacks but did not give details of casualties. In another incident, unidentified gunmen in Navindil, near Nelliady Junction along Point Pedro, Jaffna Road, fired at an SLA foot patrol at 12:00 noon Monday. The firefight lasted 10 minutes. No casualties were reported. Following the attack, the SLA closed the Jaffna-Point Pedro road for more than two hours, detained fifteen youths for further investigations. Meanwhile, in an earlier reported claymore attack on SLA soldiers in Navalady, in coastal fishing hamlet of Inparuddy, one trooper was killed and four injured at 7:30 p.m. Monday.
