ICRC transports Vaharai wounded, 1 succumbs to wounds

One of the four civilians who were critically injured in the Sri Lanka Army’s artillery attack on Vaharai Government hospital succumbed to her injuries at Valaichchenai District hospital after the ICRC officials brought them in boats from besieged Vaharai to Sri Lanka Army controlled Valaichchenai around 4:00 p.m. Monday.
17-year-old girl, K.Santhirakala, died and 6-year-old girl P. Mohanappiriya, 15-year-old S. Thanojan and 20-year-old girl Meena, were admitted to the Valaichchenai Hospital. Sri Lanka Army carried out artillery attacks Monday morning on Vaharai where thousandsd of civilians including the Internally Displaced Persons from the neighboring Trincomalee district were gathered. A number of humanitarian organizations have appealed to the international community and the ICRC to declare the Vaharai hospital as a save-haven.
