High school student disappears in Jaffna

Students of Point Pedro Velayutham Boys’ School boycotted classes Tuesday demanding the release of the student who went on missing while on his way to attend tuition classes in a bicycle last Friday evening, sources in Point Pedro said.

Paranjothy Thananjeyan, 19, who set out from home in Manthihai to a private tuition center in Point Pedro, 4 km away from home, on Friday, has not been seen since.

Student leaders at his school said they believe that Sri Lanka Army (SLA) soldiers are responsible for the disappearance. Students vowed to continue their boycott until Thananjeyan is released.

SLA soldiers and collaborating paramilitaries in the Peninsula have abducted a number of undergraduates and high school students in the last several months.
