Tutory owner shot dead in Chavakachcheri

Unidentified armed persons shot dead the owner of a private tuition center in Chavakachcheri town in Jaffna district around 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, sources in Jaffna said.
Arumugam Markandu, 60, was at his home when two armed persons came in a motorbike, shot him dead and escaped. The autopsy was held at Chavakachcheri district hospital and Chavakachcheri magistrate gave orders to hand over the body to his relatives after the inquest. Meanwhile, a gunfight between the Sri Lanka Army (SLA) soldiers and unidentified gunmen took place in Manambi area in Thikkam in Vadamaradchi at 7:00 a.m. Tuesday. The exchange of gunfire lasted for more than 15 minutes. No casualties were reported. Several similar took place in the area last month, and residents of the area fled their homes fearing for their lives, and returned only after spending few nights with friends or relatives away from Thikkam area.
