SLA troops shoot dead youth in Jaffna

An unidentified youth was shot dead during a confrontation with Sri Lanka Army (SLA) troops Tuesday morning at about 10:30 a.m in Ilukanawaththa, Ellankulam area in Uduppidy in Vadamaradchchy. The youth is alleged to have lobbed a grenade at the troops patrolling in the area resulting in an exchange of fire between the troops and the youth.

The body of the youth, estimated to be 20 years old, was handed over on Wednesday morning by Valvettiturai police at the Jaffna hospital and is kept in the mortuary pending identification.

Meanwhile, two abandoned houses in the area from where the youth is said to have carried out the attack has been completely demolished by the troops and some materials have been taken for further investigation, civilian sources said.
