Search operation in Vadamaradchi east

The Sri Lankan Army cordoned off and searched the villages of Kudaththanai and Manalkaadu, in Vadamaradchi East, in the Jaffna peninsula from 9 a.m. this morning until 1 p.m.

Sources said that the army from the Vallipuram camp moved into the area on a tip off about the presence of some persons suspected to be members of the Liberation Tigers.

No one was allowed to leave the area until the search was over.

Residents said that many who had entered the area before 9 a.m. had to wait in a long queue until at the Vallipuram checkpoint until the operation was over.
