SL Development Forum begins in Galle under tight security

The first day session of the two-day Sri Lanka Development Forum-2007 began Monday morning at Light House Hotel in Galle town, capital of southern province amid tight security. Several hundred police personnel and troops of the Sri Lanka Army (SLA) and Sri Lanka Navy (SLN) have been deployed in the town and surrounding the venue of the conference. SL President Mahinda Rajapakse declared open the forum.



About two hundred and fifty delegates from fifty countries and representatives of World Bank and other international lending agencies have been attending the conference.

US ambassador in Sri Lanka and several other foreign delegates and Minister Dr.Sarath Amunugama addressed the opening session.

SL Development Forum was held in 2005 in Kandy, capital of central province. This year Galle has been selected to hold the Forum Session as it is being rehabilitated under tsunami recovery programme.
