Police constable injured in Vavuniya grenade attack

A Sri Lanka Police constable sustained serious injuries when unknown armed men hurled hand grenades at the Police sentry point in Thonikkal area in Vavuniya at 8:45 p.m. Sunday, Police sources in Vavuniya said. The injured officer was first taken to Vavuniya Teaching Hospital and later transferred to Anuradhapura Hospital, hospital sources said.

Meanwhile, a civilian was injured in a hand grenade explosion near Pandarikulam Muniyappar Temple in Vavuniya at 5:15 p.m. Sunday.

Vavuniya Police said the injured civilian has been taken to Vavuniya Hospital.

Details of the identity of the injured man, and the motives behind the grenade attack are not yet known.
