Decomposed body of youth recovered in Amparai

Samanthurai police recovered the washed ashore decomposed dead body of a youth at Karaithivu beach in Samanthurai police division in Amparai district Monday around 7:00 a.m. on information given by local people. The dead body which showed gunshot wounds also had its hands tied behind and its throat tightly bound by rope, the police added.

The dead body appears to be of a youth around 25 years and being not identified until evening, the police are taking steps to bury it where it was found due to its decomposed state.

Samanthurai police who are conducting further investigation said that the dead youth may have been abducted, tortured and later shot dead by armed men.

Karaithivu is located 39 km south of Batticaloa.
