Home Guard trooper killed in Vavuniya

A Sri Lanka Home Guard trooper was killed in an attack on a guardpost at Kurumankadu in Vavuniya, around 8:35 p.m., Monday, police in the northern town said.

The police said unidentified men attacked 18th. guard post at Kurumankadu, killing the trooper on the spot.

The Home Guards are a paramilitary force deployed by the Sri Lankan Ministry of Defence in the Sinhala border villages in the northern and eastern parts of the island. They are trained by the Sri Lanka Army and Police.

Home Guard Service was formed in 1985 as a supplementary force to support and assist the three forces and the police by protecting border villages and the Main Supply Routes.
