Two youths seek protection at Jaffna HRC

Two youths from Sirupiddy area in Valigamam east, fearing threat to their lives from Sri Lanka (SL) armed forces and allied paramilitaries, sought safety at the Human Rights Commission (HRC) in Jaffna, civil society sources in Jaffna said. The youths were placed under the protective custody in Jaffna prison, raising the total of persons kept there under protective custody to 59, HRC sources said.

The parents who accompanied their sons said that armed persons were searching for them in their area during nights following the incident where the bodies of two men abducted from their homes in Sirupiddy were found dumped in Nilaavarai Sunday.

The parents were scared that their sons' lives were also in danger, and sought safety with the help of the HRC.
