Security tightened in southern province

Security has been tightened in Kataragama, Hambantota, Ambalantota, Hungama, Tissamaharagama, Lunugamvehera, Sooriyawewa and Tangalle, all police divisions in Galle district in southern province that come under Superintendent of Police in Tangalle in Galle district, Police said.

Troops are deployed in front of government buildings, junctions and roads in all these divisions.

All vehicles plying to these police divisions from other parts of the island are subjected to severe checks and occupants are interrogated by government troops.

Residents have been requested by the Sri Lanka Army (SLA) and Police not to provide accommodation to strangers of all three communities, Tamils, Sinhalese and Muslims in their houses.
