Post office refuses sending food parcels, medicine to Jaffna

Sri Lanka's Post Master General (PMG) directed all post offices not to accept parcels containing medicine more than one kilogram or parcels containing food materials addressed to Jaffna district residents until further notice, media sources in Colombo said.

PMG told the media that the Commissioner General of Essential Services has informed him that enough food materials are available in Jaffna district.

He also said heavy expenditure has been incurred to postal department in sending food parcels by air and sea. People are handing over food parcels more than 5 to 6 kg to post offices, he said.

However, postal department has taken steps to send food parcels already handed over to the post offices and at present lying in the Trincomalee post office to Jaffna by sea, PMG further said.
