Fisherman shot dead in Point Pedro

Two unidentified armed men on motor cycle chased a fisherman riding motor bike along Thumpalai road in Point Pedro area in Vadamaradchi and shot him dead around 8:30 a.m Tuesday, sources in Point Pedro said. The victim was shot dead ten minutes after returning from the Sri Lanka Army 524 Brigade camp close to his house where he had been to obtain permission to hold his sister's wedding.

The victim was identified as Jaggopu Iruthaya Jenyraj, 32, a bachelor of Manal Lane at Beach Road in Point Pedro. Jenyraj was on his way to the Village Officer's office located on Thumpalai road to get ration card for food items needed for the wedding.

Point Pedro police recovered the dead body and handed it over to Manthikai hospital morgue.
