3 civilians shot dead in Trincomalee

Unidentified armed persons shot dead three civilians, two men and a woman, in three separate places in Trincomalee district Wednesday, one in Thampalakamam 24 km from Trincomalee town and the other two in the suburbs of Trincomalee town, sources in Trincomalee said.
The woman was shot killed Wednesday night at Gandhinagar, a suburb about 2 km to the south west of Trincomalee town, along Trincomalee-Kandy road in Upuveli police division. Five unidentified armed men on two motorbikes called her out of her house and shot her dead.
The victim was identified as P. Sivatharshini, 33.
The woman's body was handed over to Trincomalee general hospital for post mortem examination and identification.
In another shooting in the suburb of Trincomalee, unidentified armed men shot dead a Tamil youth Wednesday evening on the border of Thuwarankadu-Anpuvalipuram, 3 km off Trincomalee town.
The victim was identified as Ponnan Mahendran, 28, three wheel driver, said to be a resident of Uppuveli, a Tamil village located north east of Trincomalee.
Uppuveli police are investigating into the killing.
The victim's body was handed over to Trincomalee general hospital morgue for identification and post mortem examination.
Meanwhile, unidentified armed men shot dead a farmer Wednesday around 7:30 p.m at Potkerni, a suburb in Thampalakamam, located about 24 km south west of Trincomalee town.
The victim was identified as Sinnathamby Thevapalan, 51.
Thampalakamam police recovered the body and handed it over to Thampalkamam government hospital for post mortem examination.
