Mason shot dead in Chavakachcheri

Amid escalating number of killings and abductions in Thenmaradchy in Jaffna district, a young family man, 28, was shot dead by unknown gunmen along Dutch Road in Chavakachcheri near the Government Hospital at 8:45 a.m. Sunday, sources in Jaffna said.

Rajaratnam Shekar, a mason, was riding in his motorbike with his wife and two children to Chavakachcheri from his home in Meesalai when the gunmen stopped the motorbike and shot him at point blank range, sources said.

Shekar was killed on the spot.

Chavakachcheri police transferred Shekar's body to Chavakachcheri Government Hospital for postmortem examinations, hospital sources said.
