Jaffna students denied permission to attend Trinco contest

Tamil medium students selected from schools in Jaffna district to participate in the rescheduled 2006 North East Provincial Tamil Language Day competition scheduled to be held in Trincomalee on Saturday and Sunday have not been given permission to travel by sea to the east port town, education officials in Jaffna said.

North East Provincial Tamil Language day competition postponed last year following the fresh fighting between the government forces and LTTE.

Winners of competitions held in twenty-four education zones in the northeast province have been invited to participate in the provincial level competition.

Students selected have applied for permission to travel to Trincomalee by sea from Jaffna.

Students qualified from Mannar and Vavuniya and LTTE held Mullaitivu and Killinochchi are also having difficulty in travelling to Trincomalee by land.
