New STF camps

The Sri Lankan Special Task Force (STF) has recently put up three new camps on the Maha Oya road in the Ampara district, according to residents. The new camps were put up at Pullukkunavi, Keliriyamaddu, 18th mile post at Aranthalavai.

The STF, deployed primarily in the east of the island, is technically a police unit, though its personnel operate in a combat role like the Sri Lanka Army.

Twenty four civilians who 'disappeared' last week are believed to have been detained by the STF.
