Eleven Tigers killed

The Sri Lanka Army (SLA) said its troops had killed eleven Liberation Tigers, including three female fighters, in two incidents south of the Trincomalee district last evening and this morning.

An SLA patrol had ambushed a group of Liberation Tigers moving towards the Angodawila area near the Seruvila Buddhist Rajamahavira last night around 7.30 p.m. killing seven of them, police sources in Trincomalee said.

Seruvila is a Sinhala settlement created in the late seventies by the Sri Lankan government in the southwestern sector of Trincomalee. It was later turned into a Sinhala majority electorate.

The SLA claimed that they had recovered one T56 rifle, one Tomba type grenade launcher, one shot gun, one electric saw, two bags of civilian clothing and a box of soap from the Tigers.

In another ambush in the same area (Seruvila) near the Sinhala settlement of Nilapolai, the SLA said it had killed four Liberation Tigers and recovered 2 T56 rifles and a communications set this morning.
