Uninsured passengers worry carriers

The Mercantile Shipping Private Ltd, the owning company of the cargo vessel Mercs Wadduwa declined to transport passengers to Colombo from Jaffna tomorrow because it has no insurance cover for them.
The Sri Lankan Ministry of Defence had made an arrangement with Mercs Wadduwa earlier to send a large number of passengers, including some foreign passport holders, who were stranded in Jaffna following the cancellation of all private airline flights between the northern peninsula and Colombo. Jaffna Kachcheri officials said the owning company of Mercs Wadduwa appears to be reluctant to take passengers tomorrow sans insurance on account of the fact that some foreign passport holders are among the passengers.
