Motor mechanic shot dead, one abducted in Eravur

Unidentified gunmen, shot dead a motor mechanic near his house at Arumgathan Kudirrupu in Eravur police division in Batticaloa district, Tuesday around 7:35 p.m, meanwhile unknown armed men shot injured and abducted his brother-in-law same night at another place in the same village, sources in Eravur said.

Kanapathipillai Vasanthakumar, 25, a father of one child and a motor mechanic employed at a motor repair shop on Eravur Main street, was identified as the victim shot dead near his house.

The gunmen shot at Vasanthakumar about 50 meters from his house while he was returning from work on bicycle. He fled up to his house with gunshot wounds where he fell dead.

Amshath, 27, a father of one child, was identified as Vasanthakumar's brother-in-law shot injured and abducted.

Originally from Kalmunai, he was married to Vasanthakumar's sister and living in Armugathan Kudirruppu.

Eravur police recovered Vasanthakumar's body and handed it over to Eravur hospital for inquest into death to be held.

Eravur police are investigating into the killing and abduction.

Eravur is located 12 km north of Batticaloa town.
