Civilian killed in SLA artillery attack in Iyakkachchi[TamilNet, Wednesday, 30 May 2007, 08:40 GMT]A civilian was killed Wednesday morning around 7:00 a.m. in Iyakkachchi, north of the Elephant Pass (Aanaiyi'ravu) as Sri Lanka Army (SLA) intensified artillery shelling hitting the houses in the village, civilians who fled the area said. The victim, a male, was identifed as Balasubramaniam. Iyakkachchi, located 6 km north of the Elephant Pass (EPS) in Pachchilaippa'l'li DS division, was captured by the Tigers, seven years ago in March 2000, when Col. Balraj, LTTE's senior military commander, spearheaded the operation that led to LTTE's conquest of the EPS garrison, the largest and well - entrenched Sri Lankan military base in the north so far in the Eelam Wars.
