12 shops robbed in Ka'luvaagnchikkudi

Businesses and banks in Ka'luvaagnchikkudi area shut down Friday protesting against robberies within last three days at twelve business centres in the market area in Ka'luvaagnchikkudi police division in Batticaloa, sources said. The protesters demanded security measures to safeguard their establishments.
Unidentified armed men broke into the business centres and robbed jewels, goods and money during three consecutive nights in Ka'luvaagnchikkudi public market area, the owners said. The shutdown of shops affected normalcy of life in Ka'luvaagnchikkudi prompting Senior Commissioner, Special Task Force, P. Ranjith, Ka'luvaagnchikkudi Police Inspector, N. K. Hearath, Batticaloa Government Agent, Sundaram Arumainayagam and Regional Secretary, Arulnathan to hold an urgently arranged discussion with the traders and officials of the banking establishments. The protesters called off shutdown after the discussion.
