Uproar in parliament over murder of Red Cross staff

Members of the Sri Lanka ruling coalition created an uproar in the parliament Tuesday morning when Mr.Joseph Michael Perera, chief whip of the main opposition United National Party (UNP) raised a question regarding the killing of two workers of the Sri Lanka Red Cross in Colombo by armed men in who arrived in a white van, parliamentary sources in Colombo said.

Members from the government side objected to the question raised by Mr.Perera, as it was not duly informed to the Speaker.

However Mr.Perera insisted that he had informed the Speaker in advance about his question.

The Speaker told Mr.Perera that he could raise that question Wednesday in the house.

The uproar occurred when Sri Lanka's parliament resumed its sittings Tuesday morning with Mr.W.J.M.Lokkubandara, Speaker in the chair.
