SLN shoots dead youth in Mannaar

The Sri Lanka Navy (SLA) shot dead a youth during a cordon and search operation conducted at Ward No: 8 of Pea'saalai in Mannaar division Tuesday morning. Mannaar Additional Magistrate Mr.T.J.Pirapaharan in the afternoon visited the site and viewed the body, sources said.



The body was handed over to the Mannaar general hospital for identification and post-mortem examination on the instruction of the Additional Magistrate.

Further inquiry into this killing was put off for July 19, sources said.

SLN sources said that they shot dead an unidentified youth in retaliation when he and another had opened fire on the SLN troops. Other youth had fled from the scene and a T-56 rifle was recovered from the site, according to SLN.
