SLA cordon, searches Valikaamam West areas

Several hundred Sri Lanka Army (SLA) troopers, brought to the Changkaanai Piratheasa Chapai (Pradeshya Sabha) areas during early morning hours of curfew, conducted a cordon and search operation in areas the covering Vaddukkoaddai, Chiththangkea'ni, Maavadi and Chuzhipuram, sources in Jaffna said.

The search continued until noon, local residents said.

Vehicular traffic was blocked from entering or leaving the affected areas during the search.

Government servants travelling to work and school children were severely affected by the operation, civil sources said.
