SLA patrol attacked

Seven Sri Lankan Army (SLA) soldiers were killed and two wounded when the Liberation Tigers attacked a patrol in Bakkiella on the Ampara-Batticaloa district border this morning around 7.30 a.m. said Police sources in Kalmunai.
The soldiers were on a route clearing patrol when the Tigers had attacked them. The Special Task Force also has a camp in the Bakkiella area. Meanwhile two Sri Lankan Police personnel were wounded when an unidentified youth lobbed a grenade into a checkpoint at Arasady in Batticaloa town this morning around 9.15 a.m. Two civilians were also wounded by the shrapnel. The area was sealed soon after the explosion and a search operation by the army and Police is still in progress said Police sources who blamed the Liberation Tigers for the attack. The Arasady sentry has been attacked four times in the past with time bombs and grenades.
