Eight Tamils arrested over East Chief Secretary's killing

Sri Lanka Army (SLA) and police, on Tuesday morning, launched a combined cordon and search operation in selected areas in Trincomalee town close to the East Provincial Secretariat located along Inner Harbour Road, following the killing of Mr.H.M.Herat Abeyeweera, Chief Secretary Monday evening. Eight Tamils were taken into custody.

The arrested included the driver of Mr.Abeyeweera's vehicle and four employees working in his office, police sources said.

According to the latest investigation report, the police had found that Mr.Abeyeweera had been shot and killed by a person who entered his office room with a file, sources said.
