TULF condemns Sri Lankan President

The Tamil United Liberation Front issued a statement today condemning the Sri Lankan President's statement in an interview with South African Television in which she had stated that Tamil minority people in Sri Lanka are not indigenous people of the island.

The TULF statement also condemned the foreign minister Lakshman Kadirgamar, who had denied that the President has stated that, despite the fact that her interview was telecasted on Rupavahini.

Decision to issue a statement of condemnation was taken at the party's central committee meting held today said TULF sources.

The statement also said that the government has again allocated more funds to defence in the national budget, an indication of the continuing priority given to the war strategy.

The TULF will vote against the government's budget proposal as a protest to the increasing defence fund.

The statement also urged for negotiations between the Sri Lankan Government and the Liberation Tigers through a mediator.
