Two plantation Tamils remanded over blocking presidential convoy

Two plantation Tamils were ordered remand till August 3 by the Colombo Additional Magistrate on a charge by the police for blocking the motorcade in which Ms Shiranthee Rajapakse, wife of President Mahinda Rajapakse was travelling. The two suspects Senthan Wijekumar and Ramiah Surendran are residents of Haputale. They were arrested by the Presidential Security Division and later handed over to Cinnamon Gardens Police, legal sources said.
The police moved for further remand of the suspects till the completion of the inquiry to find out whether there was any plot behind their action by placing a lorry driven by one of the suspect across the road blocking the presidential convoy. The other suspect was the cleaner of the lorry. The police further told court that the lorry was returned to its owner after examination by the bomb disposal squad of the Sri Lanka Army.
