Undergraduate students at Jaffna campus and the students of Jaffna Technical College (High Tech) boycotted lectures Friday protesting the Wednesday murder of Deluxshan, 22, a young media student at Jaffna University Media Research and Training Center and Sasiroopan, 25, a student of Jaffna Technical College (High Tech) who was shot dead Thursday, sources in Jaffna said.
Deluxshan's body was cremated Friday evening at a local cemetary, campus spokesperson said. Students Union Consortium has previously announced that Students will boycott lectures until the completion of funeral ceremony for Deluxshan. Black flags were flown at the building of the Jaffna University Media Research and Training Center. Deluxshan's killing has shocked the residents of Jaffna and has created a palpable climate of fear among the student community in the Jaffna Campus, and other educational institutions. Targetted killings of students, and lack of security within the campus and surrounding areas has called into question the continued functioning of the Jaffna Campus, student leaders said.
