Sri Lanka Air Force (SLAF) fast attack Kfir fighter jets twice bombed civilian settlements in Poonakari in Vanni around 4:05 p.m Monday, causing heavy damages to the shelters and properties of the people displaced from Poonakari due to earlier offensives, sources in Vanni said. Before carrying out the bombing raid on Poonakari, SLAF aircrafts circled low for nearly 20 minutes in skies above Vanni, including Ki'linochchi, creating unrest and panic among students sitting for examinations, school officials administering the examinations said.
Patients and nurses in Ki'linochchi hospital scattered in fear
seeking shelter from the bombers. s"The SLAF bombing in Vanni Monday coincides with the first day of
the General Certificate of Education (GCE) Ordinary level in
Ki'linochchi, Mullaiththeevu, Madu and Vavuniyaa. This will certainly
affect the performance of the students and their attendance," the
principal of a leading school in Ki'linochchi said. Premkumar, 14, the student who lost both legs in the SLAF bombing on the fishing hamlet in A'lampil July 11, warded in Ki'linochchi hospital, was also affected and cried aloud calling for help when the bombers flew low above Ki'linochchi, according to his father Premthas said.
