Call to expeditiously resettle Moothoor IDPs
[TamilNet, Thursday, 09 August 2007, 15:05 GMT]
In a letter addressed to the Minister of
Resettlement and Disaster Relief, Abdul Risath
Badiyudeen, Wednesday Secretary of
Batticaloa District Inter Religious Federation,
Mr.K.Kanesh, appealed for assistance to make
immediate arrangements to assist civilians
displaced from Moothoor to be settled in welfare centres.
The full text of the letter follows: A large number of civilians from Moothoor forced
out of their homes for more than one year ago due
to SLA offensives and displaced to Batticaloa
district were temporarily accommodated in private
homes, due to lack of space in welfare centres. The home owners have started
asking the occupants to
move out of their residences and as such immediate
steps should be taken to resettle them in the welfare centres in the district. These civilians had earlier been resettled in
welfare centres and therefore it will be helpful
for them if they are again resettled in these centres. This matter has been brought to the attention of
the officials concerned but they have ignored the
request. These civilians have lost their
belongings and many lives too have been lost. There for we appeal to you to assist these people
without further delay on humanitarian basis. A copy of the letter has been forwarded to
Batticaloa district Government Agent
