SL Parliament extends Emergency for another month

Sri Lanka's parliament Tuesday evening by a majority of 92 votes adopted a motion to extend the State of Emergency for another month. 107parliamentarians voted for the motion and 15 MPs belonging to Tamil National Alliance (TNA) and Western Peoples Front (WPF) voted against the extension motion.

None of the parliamentarians of the main opposition United National Party (UNP) was present in parliament at that time of voting.

Voting was conducted at the request made by TNA parliamentarian Mr.Mavai Senathirajah.

State of Emergency declared on 12 August 2005 midnight following the assassination of former Foreign Minister Mr.Lakshman Kadirgamar is being extended every month with the approval of the parliament.
